Family Photo Workflow
Have you ever wondered what my homework looks like when you book with me for a private family photo session? Well, you are in for a great surprise! Below is what I do even before we meet on the “day of”. I put a ton of thought and planning into each one of my photo sessions. This step of my business is extremely important to me. I never will show up to a photo session without doing the below steps. I hope this blog gives you a little insight into my structure and the importance of having a workflow for YOU! All you have to do is show up with joy, giggles, and love for your family!
First, before diving into my workflow it is important to check out my portfolio. (Marlo Moody Photography). No two photographers are the same. We all have our own unique spin and focus point. We all edit differently and capture images with completely different viewpoints. My style and prices are all on my website! I like to be extremely transparent with every photo session. It is completely okay not to book with me if you don’t like my style. It is way more important that you find a Tallahassee family photographer that is going to give you the family pictures that you want and desire to have. The family pictures that you will print and hang on your walls at home. This is the most important step for YOU!
So, you love what you see in my portfolio! What is next? You can find the “book online” page to see what dates are available for family photo sessions. I typically plan out my calendar per quarter or twice a year. You will see on the calendar under Family Photo Sessions the option to book a Friday evening, Saturday morning, Saturday evening, or Sunday evening. The times posted will be based on the sunset time. I am an all-natural light photographer and strive to keep my booking times within two hours of sunrise and sunset. This gives each photo session the best natural lighting. If you are interested in a weekday booking please let me know in your contact form with the booking. You will have a short form to complete once you select the best day and time for your family photo session. After you book online, you will receive an email from me with a contract and invoice. Within the contract is a very important step that impacts your private family photo session and how I organize my workflow. I have a few questions that I would love for you to share everything with me. How many years have you been married? Where did you and your spouse meet? What are the kids’ favorite activities? Are you a high-energy family or a low-key and quiet one? Sharing with me in a few sentences about your life as it is right now will significantly help me on the “day of”. Please note, your date is not officially booked until a 50% deposit has been received.
After your 50% deposit has been received we will select a location from my location guide and share with you my “client corner”. It is important to me as a business owner that you are aware of each step when booking with Marlo Moody Photography and no “crickets” during the process. Your location will need to be picked four weeks before your booked photo session.
Marlo Moody’s homework - it is at this stage of working with me that I create a personalized photography “day of” workflow. I take the specific location and my list of family moments that I orchestrate with you and lay out each step that I will be taking. Of course, like most parents, I will always factor in meltdowns and breaks but the majority of the time I will still be taking pictures. I try not to stop! It is during the mundane moments that we find beauty and connection. In each location, we have two to three different spots that we will transition into. Family Education - With my email communication I strive to educate my clients on what is important to me during your family photo session. I will actually tell you not to look at me. Look at each other, laugh, tell each other a joke, whisper I love you to your spouse, and say that “insider joke” to your child that will make them laugh. Make funny faces at each other. Kiss, touch each other, dance, ….so many things I will direct you to do during the photo session. I promise I will still ask you to look at me but most of the time I want you to look at your loved ones.
